Chapter 7 – ConfigurationsChapter 7 – Configurations\Configuration

Configuration

A configuration is a structure associated with a data object (drawings, specifications, spreadsheets, etc. are all «objects»).

A configuration is made up of configuration links. Each link between a parent and a child object has certain properties.

A configuration may change over time, but the entire history of links between the objects is stored. To view a configuration at a specific moment in time or over a valid date range, you must apply a configuration filter.

An object can have several types of configurations. However, it may have only one configuration of each type.

Configuration types are defined by the administrator according to the needs of the application. The  definition  includes  the  types  of  objects  and  configuration  links  allowed  in  the configuration.

The following constraints apply to creating and modifying configurations:

*       An object may have one or more configurations. However, it can only have one configuration of each type.

*       You must have the proper access rights in order to create and modify configurations.

*       Only one user may edit a configuration at a time. You are prevented from entering the edit mode for a configuration that is being modified by another user.
